From $45 USD Each

Compatible with: Toyota Tundra 1st Gen & Toyota Tacoma 2nd Gen | Drum Brake Models

Toyota’s first-generation Tundra (2000–2006) and many second-generation Tacoma configurations used rear drum brakes — reliable, long-lasting, and cheap to maintain when you use quality replacement parts. The brake drum is the rotating housing that the brake shoes press against to slow the truck. When the drum develops deep scoring, cracks, or is worn beyond its maximum diameter, it must be replaced. Apex Auto Spare Parts stocks rear brake drums for both the 1st gen Tundra and 2nd gen Tacoma.

Compatible Vehicles

  • 2000–2006 Toyota Tundra (1st Gen) — all 2WD models with rear drum brakes | 3.4L V6, 4.7L V8
  • 2000–2006 Toyota Tundra 4WD models — confirm drum vs disc configuration
  • 2005–2015 Toyota Tacoma (2nd Gen) — 2WD models with rear drum brakes | 2.7L I4, 4.0L V6
  • Access Cab and Double Cab base trims 2WD — typically drum rear
  • Does NOT fit Tacoma or Tundra models with rear disc brakes

How to Tell if Your Drum Needs Replacing (Not Just Resurfacing)

  • Measure the drum inner diameter — if worn beyond the maximum diameter stamped on the drum, replace
  • Visible cracks on the inner friction surface — automatic replacement required
  • Deep heat-check cracking visible as a spiderweb pattern on the inner surface
  • Drum egg-shaped (out of round by more than 0.005 in) — causes pedal pulsation
  • Score marks deeper than 0.090 in — beyond resurfacing limit
  • Brake shoes consistently contaminated with metal particles — drum shredding

Drum Replacement Tips

  • Always replace drums in pairs — both rear at the same time for balanced braking
  • Replace brake shoes at the same time as drums for best results
  • Clean the wheel hub flange and apply anti-seize before mounting — prevents rust-seizure
  • Adjust the star wheel adjuster so the shoe just drags when spinning the new drum
  • Bed in new drums with 5–6 moderate stops from 40 km/h before normal driving
